The highly ranked Atlanta bars consist of Sip’s, The Eagle, Blakes, Friends neighborhood bar, and Burkhurts pub and many more lined up and down the Midtown area or spread around some. It was a cool afterparty for the event we attended but no one knew what that was about. At least those places behind Jungle seem to be maybe a bathhouse but one is an afterhours and we still are not sure what all the King Sized beds and the dancefloor represent. Now there are so many small and bed-filled places in Atlanta we are not sure which is a club or a bed and breakfast. The liquor laws and the dance laws and all kind of tea laws may have even passed since then. The Atlanta club scene has majorly changed since it once had the Charlie Brown drag show and Backstreet nightclub. What is even better is when we see the Atlanta scene ourselves now and then and get to eat some of the food and kick back some beers at places like Blake’s. Compare that to Wilton Manors with dozens of gay bnb’s, bars, a mega-club called Manor and three stripper venues. Southbeach has NO big gay clubs anymore they just have Twist and Score that is open here and there although they do have a gay hotel or two. Lauderdale that has 10x gayer presence and far more things to do for the gays in the best gayborhood in the country known as Wilton Manors. They really mentioned Sobe without mentioning Ft. Southbeach Miami – “Golden tans and non-stop nightlife”.The larger clubs are near Cheshire bridge and another on the other side of downtown called Future. They haven’t had pride in two years because of the pandemic while clubs have closed down. Midtown Atlanta -while Midtown is one of the most beautiful LGBTQ neighborhoods near a breathtaking park in the country the scene itself is more spread out now.Hell’s Kitchen – “reigning queen of NYC gay nightlife” This is not really true anymore since many of the parties have moved to Brooklyn making things more spread out than it was before the pandemic.Northalsted – aka Boystown Mid-western gay metropolis.Schöneberg – “World-class historic neighborhood with a dark side”.West Hollywood and DTLA have more gay nightlife than the Castro but did not make it to the list for some reason.
One of the best times to go is for Folsom’s fetish dance parties but other than pride it really doesn’t have the scene we once knew. Castro in San Francisco – “Epicenter of west coast gay life”.
